Established in 2004 by Ruksher Malik and Steven Chan, the aim of Pastels Salon is to create a salon where all can experience, the highest quality hair, nail and beauty services delivered by the most sought-after professionals, using the world’s best products – all under one roof. Since its launch, Pastels Salon has become an award-winning brand and one of the best grooming destinations in the UAE.
Pastels has long been a go to for a great colour and cut for the women of Dubai.
Walking into their Al Wasl salon it’s easy to see why they are so popular, a beautifully maintained white villa, flooded with natural light with a lot of space for the different sections and facilities. I was greeted immediately, met by my hairdresser Karen (who has over a decade of experience with Toni&Guy in London and Charlie Miller in Edinburgh) and seated. Coffee of course is on offer, and it comes with your own cafetiere, mug of milk, and two biscuits. Heaven already.
Karen took time to discuss my needs, and what we both thought would work well for my hair.
She made me feel totally at ease, she is also a mum, so we discussed parenting , and how she actually starts at 8.30 am so mums can come straight from drop off, have their colour , cut and blow dry and be out of the door ready for pick up. Now that is mum friendly! She applied the colour very efficiently and carefully, and then it was under the heat for developing, whilst she constantly checked the colour to ensure it was removed at the right time.
Off to the washing station, and for someone who suffers from bad shoulders I was delighted that the chairs at the sinks are fully reclinable, (imagine lying in a bed whilst someone gently washes your hair and massages your scalp). As I was snoozing Karen then applied a toner followed by a conditioning treatment, which she advised would strengthen and nourish my dry hair.
Then back to my chair for the cut and blow dry, Karen expertly snipped and styled my ends, and sorted out my dodgy layers, then gave me a gorgeous bouncy blow dry. The end result was really lovely, I was delighted not only by the colour, but also the cut, and as i write this almost a week later I can confirm that the blow dry was able to withstand the week (with dry shampoo obviously!)
